Michel has come back here for the last…three years—we’ve all gotten to know him—stays about a month, runs the Boston Marathon…he comes here and has over the last several years reviewed the eastern scholarly literature on royal descents and on the 500 colonists whom he has found most frequently in the ancestry of Mormon pioneers, and various other families—most Mayflower families, and lots of other items—and is imputing all this data into his collection. This is the first serious attempt to evaluate the family group sheet corpus of literature and to improve it and to compare it with scholarship in the East…what Michel has to say is that its time for both sides to look seriously at the other and to learn a great deal from the other.——from Gary Boyd Roberts introduction of Michel Call lecture, May 11, 1985

Michel, that was quite brilliant, and I don’t use the word brilliant short-sightedly. A great many people need to hear that lecture. I can think of all sorts of groups in Utah, the entire body of the American Society of Genealogists, the entire body of my distinguished colleagues on the eastern seaboard—need to hear that lecture. There is a great deal of bad feeling, mis-informed feeling, refusal to examine what both worlds have done by either side here…I do think Michel’s lecture was brilliant, and I think we should all encourage him to give it throughout the country and to let the value of what he has done be known. I also think his demographics is quite marvelous.——from comments by Gary Boyd Roberts after Michel Call lecture, May 11, 1985
